IT takes a mutiny for a pirate captain and his first mate to end up on a desert island where their hopes of rescue are scuttled by all the plastic surrounding them in the sea.

This was a tale with plenty of drama and a lot of laughs in telling the story about the plight of the plastic-loving pirates, staged by senior pupils of Tedburn St Mary Primary School at the end of term.

They gave an afternoon and evening performance of this musical play by Niki Davies, “Plastic Pirates”, in Tedburn Village Hall.

Costumes had been made as much as possible from recycled materials, one or two being borrowed from Tedburn Amateur Dramatic Society and there were some very good performances.

Sea creatures complain that the pirates have been hurting them by chucking all their plastic overboard and everyone agrees at the end that recycling is the best solution.
