CREDITON’S Brown Paper Bag Theatre Company is currently rehearsing a stage adaptation of Dylan Thomas’s classic radio play, "Under Milk Wood".

With a cast of 31 actors under the direction of Frank Kelsall, they will bring to life the 70 plus characters who inhabit (alive or dead) Thomas’s fictional small Welsh fishing village of Llareggub.

Lyrically written as a radio play, this stage adaptation explores this eclectic mix of characters during one village day; experiencing their dreaming fantasies and their bizarre and sometimes eccentric actions.

The story is told through the eyes of a retired fisherman - a castaway, introducing the village folk and their daily routines, with the aid of his own fictional voice of reason.

Poetic, funny and deeply moving, Dylan’s best-loved characters are brought to life on stage.

The audience will meet Polly Garter, Captain Cat, Nogood Boyo, Reverend Eli Jenkins and the impressionable appearances of deceased sailors, the petrified ghosts of dead husbands and also a postman who verbally delivers the mail after his wife has steamed it open.

Using sound effects, shadow screens, lighting by Jack Robson and costumes by Lindy Yellowlees, the show will take place at The Crediton Arts Centre in East Street on January 23, 24, 25 and 26 at 7.30pm.

Tickets can be obtained from Crediton Arts Centre on 01363 773260, at Crediton Bookshop on 01363 77470, Sandford Community Stores on 01363 775805 and online at: www.creditonartscentre.ticketsource.co.uk .
