Bow and District Historical Society member Erica Eden explained: "Dr Gray is always an excellent speaker and whatever the topic he brings it alive even to those who didn’t have a prior interest in the subject.
"The Society, like most groups, has been in abeyance during Covid and was pleased to hold its first meeting in September with the speaker John Allen, a recent President of the Devonshire Association, telling us about his research on Breton craftsmen in early Tudor Devon.
"He showed pictures of rare extant examples in three local churches of beautiful carvings he believes were done by Bretons in situ.
"Few of the audience were aware of them and some were inspired to consider visiting the churches to enjoy the craftsmanship close-up."
