A COUPLE who met in a rather unusual way have celebrated 60 happy years of marriage.

Freda and Frank Conibere met when Freda was shaking her duster out of an upstairs window, right in the face of Frank who was working up a ladder!

The couple marked their wedding anniversary, which was on September 5, as well as Freda’s 80th birthday (August 13), with a family party at the Devonshire Dumpling, Morchard Road.

Frank is 88 years-old. He was born in Elston near Copplestone. He completed his National Service before training to be a Carpenter and Wheelwright, moving on later to be a general builder.

Freda was born in Black Dog before moving to Barnstaple Cross. She worked much of her life at Kelly’s, both as a housemaid and in the poultry factory.

They spent much of their married life in Knowle, before recently moving to Copplestone where they are still enjoying their golden years together.

They have four children, Alan, Paul, Linda and Andrew as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
