A COUPLE who met while travelling to work in 1956 celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary on Thursday, July 23.
Cyril and June Chudley married in 1960 at Thorverton and their honeymoon was in Newquay.
June said it cost seven guineas a week to stay in Newquay.
June (nee Glanville), was born at Thorverton in 1939.
The family went to live at Parliament, Cadbury, from where she started school in Thorverton. On returning to Thorverton to live, she went on to Tiverton Grammar School.
June worked in the Accounts Department at the John Heathcoat factory in Tiverton, and for the Commercial Union Assurance Company in Exeter, until 1963.
Cyril was born at Shillingford near Exeter in 1938, and lived at Uton near Crediton from 1939 until he got married.
He went to school in Crediton at Landscore and Hayward’s, then to Exeter Technical School.
Cyril worked in the Engineering Department at John Heathcoat, Tiverton, and stayed in Engineering and Engineering related employment until retirement.
Cyril was a founding member of Kirton Photography Club and June was a founding member of the Creedy Walkers.
They both enjoy walking and June also enjoys line dancing, bingo at Newton St Cyres and gardening.
The couple have two children, Graham and Deborah and three grandchildren, Scott, Glen and Ben.
They agreed that allowing each other to have their own interests, as well as joint hobbies and activities, was the secret to a happy marriage.
