THE 2013 Poppy Appeal Launch for Devon will take place on Friday, October 25 at the Royal Marines Base Chivenor, near Braunton.

Local school children will be among those attending and many will be sons and daughters of servicemen and women currently on operations in Afghanistan.

The act of remembrance will begin at 10am on the sea shore at the Base. Those who wish to attend must arrive at RMB Chivenor before 9am. They will be transported by coach to the sea shore.

The launch will include wreaths arriving by landing craft and borne by members of the Commando Logistic Regiment, representing the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force and will include an address by the Regiment's Commanding Officer.

A short service of remembrance will be held at the new memorial at the entrance to the Chivenor barracks.

This year's Appeal theme is "the Family".
