WITH the recent flooding disasters devastating communities elsewhere in the country, never has there been a more important time to focus on community resilience.

On Wednesday, November 27, independent charity Devon Communities Together is hosting the Devon Community Resilience Forum, at which community representatives from across Devon will meet together for a packed day of presentations and workshops to support them to organise community action in the face of severe weather and other emergency situations.

The event, which will take place from 10am to 4pm at Rattery Village Hall, near South Brent, is aimed primarily at local councils and community volunteers, whose planned and co-ordinated response in the form of a community emergency plan can make a huge difference to minimising the impact of emergency situations on a community, while supporting our emergency services.

Not only is it a timely topic given recent weather conditions, the day is set to be an inspiring example of Devon’s communities taking positive action to support themselves.
