NO chances were being taken to upset county pride with the cream teas served at Zeal Monachorum on Saturday to help fund the rehabilitation appeal for a rugby player left paralysed from the waist down after an accident.
The teas at North Star House, Zeal Monachorum, the home of Jan and Tony Brealy, were delivered to the tables in both Devon style and Cornish tradition, jam first or cream first.
There was extra entertainment before the afternoon got going with a wedding at the parish church across the road where a tractor pulling a trailer was parked up waiting to take the wedding party to their reception.
All the cakes had been baked by members of Zeal WI, of which Jan is president, and friends. Although it rained at other places that lunchtime and afternoon, it kept away from Zeal until later.
Craig’s grandmother, Margaret Dennis, was busy selling raffle tickets.
Funds raised from the cream tea event, which amounted to more than £340, will go towards the £75,000 target for Craig’s treatment and rehabilitation via the crowd funder page set up by his wife, Chloe.
There were also donations amounting to £20 handed in after the event.
Anyone wishing to donate through Go Fund Me should search “Craig’s Journey”.
The fund last week stood at £42,000 after a party at North Tawton RFC for Craig’s 26th birthday.
He was North Tawton RFC First Team Captain and was injured when he fell from a roof while working at his parents farm.
