THE death has been announced of a highly respected former Crediton teacher and youth worker.

Adam Box said: “I am very sorry to have to report the death of former QES teacher and long time Youth Tutor Bob Stock.

“Bob had been unwell for some time, dealing with both cancer and dementia, but he had bravely carried on and regularly attended the QE Former Staff meals until this time last year.

“Bob will be remembered by many in their 50's and 60's as the person who introduced them to surfing for which they developed a lifelong love due to his enthusiasm.

“He also took students canoeing and climbing, and he opened a hugely popular gym in the old fives courts at QE Upper School.

“As Youth Tutor he ran the Crediton Youth Club in the former Haywards School and he oversaw the creation of youth clubs in surrounding villages. He also ran summer holiday play schemes which were very popular.

“Bob had been admitted to a home in May as his Alzheimer's got worse and he died peacefully early this morning.

“Our thoughts are with his wife Sue and his daughters at this difficult time.”

There have been many wonderful comments about Bob on social media from former pupils or youth group attendees.

Robert (Bob) Stock, died peacefully on Monday, October 27 at Barton Place Nursing Home, and was aged 79 years.

His funeral service will be held at The Exeter and Devon Crematorium, St Peters Chapel, on Monday, November 17 at 10.30am.
