FOR 16 years David Williams has played pool for Devon, qualified to play for the England B team in 2003 and 2004 and after missing out on qualifying for the squad by a frame for the last three years, has now qualified for England A which is the 2009 World championship team.

Not only this, but over Easter David (34) won the Barcelo Open in Leicestershire, the first major tournament he has ever competed in, playing against two previous winners in a competition that included at least half a dozen world class players and England internationals. "I had a very tough draw," said David. "Winning was unbelievable."

David, who lives in Crediton, began playing pool seriously at the Village Inn, Tedburn St Mary when he was 14. Before then, though, he had become fascinated watching snooker on television and played for Potters A in the Exeter and District First Division for five years.
