ALTHOUGH there were fewer entries at this year’s Sandford Flower Show, the Chairman, Tony Wright, and the Judges, Mike Elliott, Bert Jewell, Bill Crout, Jane Bailey, Margaret Harris and Una Hobbs, agreed that the standard of the exhibits were high.

The most successful exhibitor was Dave Friendship who won six trophies for the Greatest number of points in the Vegetable, Fruit and Flower section, then the Nick Cann Trophy and gift voucher for most points in the Vegetable and fruit classes and the Cup for the Sandford Show Vase class.

Dave also won the Cup for the most points in the Flower classes, plus the award for the Heaviest Potato, and the Garden News Shield, for most points in the classes for entries by a Sandford parishioner, plus several gift vouchers.

John Crook won the award for the best exhibit in the Flower classes with his Dahlias.

A Gift voucher was won by Margaret Phillips for her Fruit Cake, made with the show’s given recipe.

Mandy Tothill won the Trophy for most points in the Floral art section and her six-year-old grandaughter Ruby Heardson, won the Cup for most points in the Primary School age group classes.

Elaine Stanlake won two trophies, for the Best photograph in the Photography section and also for her superb floral art arrangement of cream roses, which was judged Best in Section.

The Women’s Institute Bowl for most points in the Cookery classes went to Lorna Cheriton. Richard Burston won the Trophy for most points in the Photography classes, Diana Edworthy took home the Cup for most points in the Handicraft section and Rita King won the Cup for the Best Pot Plant with her unusual Parrot Plant.

Sara Glass swept the board in the Junior Photography classes to win the Sherwood Cup.
