NorthOkes 7

CREDITON travelled to North Tawton for this fixture against North Oakes for what was their first game for five weeks and first of 2010.

Games between these to local rivals are always tight affairs and this one proved no different, with two evenly matched teams.

NorthOkes had the edge in the scrums but Crediton held the upper hand in the loose play and secured a lot of second phase ruck ball.

This was due in no small part, to some excellent work from flankers Jamie Mckenzie and George Blake supported well by Ollie Down, Alex Rodd and Dan Vanstone.

Crediton started the stronger and spent considerable periods in the home sides half.

An infringement in front of the posts from the home team saw Ollie Avery – Wright slot a straight forward penalty for the first points of the game. Further Crediton pressure led to loose play 10 metres from the home line and prop Alex Rodd picked up and crashed over with the conversion from Ollie Avery–Wright.

From the re-start kick the ball went to full back Jack Zilch on his 22 metre line. He proceeded to weave and sprint his way through the majority of the opposing team for a stunning individual try under the posts, again converted by Ollie Avery-Wright. Just before half time, further Crediton pressure following a good kick and chase, Crediton retrieved the ball and No 8 Ollie Down was first there backing up well to go over for the third try.

The second half was a far more even affair with each side pressing hard for a score. It was the home team, though, who halfway through the half scored a converted try after a good handling move.

Crediton then held firm, clearing well a few times when their line was pressured to take a good win.
