FUTURE provision for the young people of the town is to be looked at again by Crediton Town Council which, last year, granted £4,000 towards the service.

At present this is based at the basement below Crediton Methodist Church. The town council would like this to grow but says it cannot work out how to expand this if it does not know what young people might prefer.

So a survey has been drawn up to distribute among young people. It was reported that the Methodist Church youth workers had hoped to be around town twice a week.

But it seemed they could not be seen talking to youngsters drinking alcohol or with drugs - which was the sort of problem they were trying to deal with.

The town council had been asked if Newcombes Meadow public toilets could be made into a youth centre because it was near the park, the bus shelter and had the space at the front between the building and Union Road.

If this was done, there would be the cost of providing toilets elsewhere or as part of the centre.

It was agreed to see if the town council could find the costs of a detached youth worker and whether the town council wished to keep funding the youth service.

WHO WILL EMPTY?

The town council’s policy and forward planning committee was told that Tesco was willing to buy two new “doggy bins” to go to the south of the store - but Mid Devon District Council could not empty them.

The town council was looking for a contractor and hoped that, to make it more profitable for the contractor, other parishes might join.

WHERE THINGS ARE

An audit is to be made of town assets which had begun with a service pro-forma being sent to all clubs, groups and organisations in the town for which the town council has records.

This pro-forma, drawn up by the town council, went viral, to the amusement of councillors.

It was said this would need to be very thorough to include street furniture.
