CREDITON Town Council showed its support for the Armed Forces earlier today, Monday, June 24, to mark Armed Forces Week.

Representatives from the Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion, Crediton branch of the Army Cadet Force and Crediton Detachment of the Air Cadets (2469 (Exeter, St Thomas), also attended.

Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday, June 29 and is a day when the whole nation is invited to show support for our military community, both serving and retired, at home and abroad.

Crediton Town Council hopes to fly an Armed Forces Day flag from a building in Crediton’s Town Square but was unable to do so this morning, as had been planned, due to illness and problems gaining access to a building.

The Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, said it was “an honour and a duty to remember all those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces”.

He said it was poignant this year as it was 75 years since soldiers had been on the beaches in Normandy.

A number of veterans attended the ceremony, the cadets attending by kind permission of Queen Elizabeth’s School.
