IF you want to hear the answer to the question, “Climate Emergency – What’s all the fuss about?”, then you should not miss an event being held in Crediton next month.
Crediton Town Council is hosting a talk by Dave Ramsden MBE on Thursday, November 4, from 7pm, at Hayward’s School Hall and all are invited to attend.
The presentation, “Climate and Ecological Crisis? What’s all the fuss about?” Will look at the whole subject and possible solutions.
It will be for people who want to know more about climate change or the ecological crisis, people who feel that either the crisis is unreal or exaggerated, or people who have not previously engaged with the subject.
Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking explained: “The Town Council declared a Climate Emergency two years ago, along with many other Devon councils and the County Council.
“Now that it’s possible to organise indoor events, we want to do all we can to inform people about the issues and give them a chance to ask questions and join the discussion.
“Dave Ramsden’s presentation will look at the global situation in detail.
“Then, a couple of days later, on Saturday, November 6, from 9.30am to 1pm we (Crediton Town Council) are hosting Crediton’s very own COP 26!
“It’s a Community Conversation taking a local look at the challenge of climate change and what we can do about it.
Cllr Elizabeth Lloyd will explain what Mid Devon District Council is doing.
“There will be expert speakers on food security, land use and economics, agriculture and biodiversity, and transport.
“After each speaker, people can discuss the issues, whatever their current viewpoint.
“As a council we need to know what people are concerned about.
“What do they think we should do? Or do themselves? If there are steps people find difficult to take, it helps us to know what and why. On the other hand, there’s probably positive action we can take together.”
Both events are free.
Look out for further details in the “Courier” in the next few weeks and on the town council website: www.crediton.gov.uk .
