THERE will be a treat in store for people from the Crediton area when the Crediton Singers choir hosts the Avranches based Vocal'In ensemble which is visiting the town to put on a special joint concert at Crediton Parish Church.

The Two Choirs Spectacular has been put together by Crediton Twinning Association.

"We're really excited about our friends from Avranches visiting," says Diane Cummings.

"I myself visited Avranches on a couple of occasions and it was a lovely experience. It's great to be able to welcome a choir to Crediton because we sing such different music. But we are singing some items together and also performing some of our popular repertoire."

This means that the planned concert, taking place on Saturday, May 27 from 7pm, will offer the widest range of choral music to suit all tastes.

Diane added: "There will be French songs, some Ukrainian songs and anthems, a Corsican folk song, music by Elton John, an Abba Medley and hits from the 60s. It's going to be great, and admission is free."

This is the first visit from Vocal'In from Avranches.

The group is run by Genevieve Ruellou and Jean-Yves Pontis and they're similarly excited about an eventful programme that includes a special dinner to be held in the town, the Saturday concert, a proposed visit to sing at a local care home and, it is to be hoped, some tourism!

The Crediton Singers have also been working very hard for this concert.

The choir has welcomed new members this year and has already held a successful charity concert.

"This is another good opportunity to support local musicians in a classy venue and to build bridges between England and France. Who knows, maybe we'll be off the Avranches at some point in the near future."
