A CREDITON woman has issued a warning to the public to be on their guard about a suspected scam.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said she received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from HMR Customs on Wednesday, July 6, during which she was asked to press button one and complete a number of responses.

The woman feared that the call was not legitimate and telephoned the police and was told that a number of people in Devon and Cornwall had received similar “scam” calls that morning.

The woman was given advice by the police and she said anyone receiving a call from the number 0161 8508494, should be aware it is a “scam”.
