THE June meeting of Crediton Probus Club was the annual meeting.
Numbers of members attending was down to 22 including one guest as many members were involved in the various Crediton Festival activities, particularly the Exhibition with Flowers in the Parish Church.
The guest was Neil Bowen, a former member who moved to Norfolk three years ago.
The proceedings began on a sad note, with the President announcing the recent death of member Henry Vodden.
Henry had been a member for many years and attended meetings regularly. Members stood for a minute's silence.
President, Andrew Rowe, reported that John Mortimer and Steve Sims were unwell and good wishes will be sent to them.
Secretary, Eddie Bayliss expressed his thanks to the support members had given him over the year, in particular to the speakers and visits sub committee. It was a year when two members resigned, sadly for health reasons, but the club gained four new members.
Treasurer, Don Nicholson distributed the financial report which showed a healthy balance. Don thanked Jack Fey for his help as auditor. The report was accepted by members.
In his annual report, President Andrew Rowe, expressed his thanks to members for their support and making his year in office such a pleasure. He referred to the quality speakers organised by the speakers sub committee. He also thanked Gareth Evans and the Red Lion catering staff at Shobrooke for maintaining the excellent standard of the meals and service, throughout the year.
Don Nicholson was then installed as President for the forthcoming year and was presented with his badge of office. Don then presented Andrew Rowe with the Past President's badge. The new President then called for nominations for other officers. As a result, the nomination and election, if required, for vice president, will be taken at the July meeting.
Member Richard Adams was proposed as treasurer. There being no other nominations, he accepted the position on the understanding that it was for a period of no longer than three years.
Jack Fey remains as assistant treasurer and auditor; Eddie Bayliss continues as secretary; Brian Threlfall and David Dorman will stay on as press officers. The speakers and visits sub committee, presently John Hubbard, Keith Barker and Keith Waters, will continue as a team, but consideration should be given to replacements in the near future.
John Hubbard gave notice of a summer outing to Ugbrooke House and Gardens, Chudleigh.
Two dates were proposed, either Wednesday, July 15 or Thursday, July 16. The preferred date will be decided at our next meeting on July 7.
