CREDITON Parish Church Music Endowment Fund was delighted to see huge public support for its Isca Voices concert on Saturday, April 2.

We had only put out 30 tea cups on the worktop in the Boniface Centre and in the end were a bit concerned that we wouldn’t have enough cake to feed the large crowd that turned up.

There had only been 33 at the last concert in 2019 so it was a relief to see the church filling up.

Ever the optimist, I had in fact printed off 80 tickets, but only 50 programmes so we didn’t overdo our outgoings and couples were able to share.  A nice problem to have!  Perhaps my previous editorial in the “Crediton Courier” and Crediton Parish Magazine had paid dividends. A total of 75 tickets were sold and together with some very generous donations meant we raised just over £450, which is very satisfying.  Thank you for your support.

The concert was well received and we enjoyed a lovely mixture of well-known classics and some lighter renditions including “Imagine” by John Lennon, also a classic nowadays, and some lively Jazz numbers arranged and conducted by Stephen Tanner.

The former Girl Choristers from Exeter Cathedral acquitted themselves very professionally and it was a joy to hear such fresh voices filling the church again in concert after three years’ drought.

Look out for further performances to help support our Endowment Fund in the future which helps to keep the music flourishing in the Parish Church.

The AGM for the Crediton Parish Church Endowment Fund is on Tuesday, April 26, at 7.30pm in the Lady Chapel of Holy Cross. It is open to the public, but questions can be emailed to me beforehand if preferred: pearkes4@gmailcom .
