TO MEET all the basic demands of Crediton Parish Church, its Parochial Church Council needs to raise at least £120,000 every year to cover costs - and that means a lot of fundraising.

One such event was the Craft Fair held at the Boniface Centre on Saturday morning, September 3, with 17 stalls of goods by local crafters ranging from walking sticks and hand-bound notebooks to jewellery, photographs, postcards and greetings cards, sewn and knitted goods as well as a sealed bid auction for a watercolour of the church interior by John Wootten.

He lives at Knowstone and during covid set himself the task of cycling round as many Devon parishes as he could, taking photographs of their churches from which he has created watercolour paintings, such as the one of Crediton, which he gave to the churches hoping it would help fundraising.

Next event for Crediton Parish Church will be the St Nicholas Fair on November 19 at the Boniface Centre.

Anne Jerman, PCC secretary, said she always finds some special stalls for that fair and this year these are silver plated items - jugs, rose bowls and more - and stainless steel which will mostly be cookware and used stamps.

There will also be all the usual stalls with ideas for Christmas gifts, decorations, books and cakes as well as bric-a-brac and homemade refreshments.
