SINCE a successful trial period coinciding with the Crediton Festival and the 1,100th anniversary of the establishment of the Cathedral in Crediton in 2009, Crediton Museum and Heritage Centre has operated for five years in the Old Town Hall, High Street. Our next exhibition, "That's Entertainment - illustrating how local people have entertained themselves over the years", opens on Wednesday, April 22, and the Family History research corner continues all year round. Our main financial overhead is rent to the charity that owns the building, costing £4,500pa. Most of this was covered by a grant in the first two years. We do not charge for admission but we have been able to continue since then due to the generosity of a number of local businesses and some individuals becoming "Friends of Crediton Museum". Businesses pay £100pa and individuals pay just £15pa, or can become "Friends for Life" for a single payment of £100. Without their help, the museum would have closed. Full details are available on our website: http://www.creditonhistory.org.uk">www.creditonhistory.org.uk . If the museum is to survive long-term, it is clear that more income is needed. We are therefore appealing to residents to consider becoming "Friends" to save the museum. The necessary form is available at the museum but if anyone needs more information, they are welcome to contact me or any other committee member.
