THE reading for the on-line Crediton Methodist Church service on Sunday, May 10, was “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”.

The challenge this week was to think about Jesus saying “I am the way” and make, draw or take a photo of something to do with this.

One family spoke about a time they had got lost on Dartmoor, and wished that they had taken a map, compass or binoculars with them. In the same way they felt that Jesus shows us the way to a good and happy life.

Chris Mann, a local Preacher, gave a short reflection on the reading and said at this difficult time we should call upon the power of the Holy Spirit to show us the way through the love of Jesus.

At a previous service a member of the Church’s Audio Visual (AV) team had spoken about how, when challenges arise, he prays about the situation trying to work out what God’s purpose is and to try and see how God’s hand is in what we do.

He explained that during July 2017 there was a problem with the Church’s website and it was decided to set up a new website using a different provider. Several possible providers were considered and finally, as part of the package, we were offered a video conferencing service. At that time it was doubtful that this would be necessary, but as it was being offered it was decided to accept it. Little did our AV team know at that time how vital it would be in enabling our services to be broadcast live on the web.

When the refurbishment was carried out in 2019 a major financial investment was made in AV equipment and some people questioned the need for such expenditure. With hindsight, it is now obvious that God’s hand was in the decisions made on which software to use. We were being shown the way forwards.

One of the Church members who has not been able to come to Church for several years due to illness and disability is greatly enjoying being able to “attend” services again.

Our AV team now have a challenge to consider how we take our technology forward once the lockdown is lifted and services can commence again in our church premises. They are currently considering how services can be made available to people who cannot physically come to church due to illness or infirmity. Whatever decisions are made in the future, we are convinced that God’s hand will be present and He will show us the way.

If you would like to listen live to Sunday morning services at 10.30am please contact the AV team using the email [email protected] or telephone 01363 777308. Individual help will be given to work out how you can best access the worship.
