Worship on the Web at Crediton Methodist Church on Sunday, August 9, was led by Pam Murphy, one of our own members and a Local Preacher. Her theme was “Take Heart – do not be afraid”.
The family challenge was to write a poem about the Bible story of Jesus walking on the water and several short poems were shown on the screen and some were read out.
Pam spoke of Faith and Trust and about Building a Bond with Jesus, Facing the fear, Focus of Faith and said there will be times when difficulties come and cause anxiety but Jesus said we should not fear as, in the story of Peter walking on the water, He will save us and calm the storms of life – if only we keep our eyes on Him.
On Sunday, August 16, the service was organised by the Worship Team and the reflection on the dramatised reading was led by Tina Turner with a theme of “Against the Odds”.
The family challenge was to design a page for the website to show all are welcome to Worship on the Web. Various people submitted their ideas and one family had made a Chalk Prayer Path at Tedburn Methodist Church, showing that a church is a family not just a building.
In Tina’s reflection on the reading of Jesus and the Cananite woman we see prejudice against women, Cananites, Gentiles, and disabilities, just as today we see evidence of racial identity and ethnic cleansing.
Discrimination and prejudice must stop NOW. The Cananite woman shows great faith and understands that Jesus is God’s Son and would bring great blessings to the whole world not just to the Jews.
Whatever we are going through at the moment, we need to bring our anxiety to the Lord and cry out “Lord Help us” – just as Jesus helped the Cananite woman when he healed her daughter.
