ON May 16 the All Age Worship at Crediton Methodist Church was taken by various members and children of the churches together. The theme was “What comes down must go up”.
The family challenge was to show footwear. We saw various shoes, boots, wellies and riding boots. Hilary said: “S - Seated, H - High, O - Over and E - Everything.
We were shown an artist’s impression of Jesus ascending into Heaven with just his feet visible to the disciples.
Helen spoke about Ascension, which in some countries is celebrated by public holidays. She said on Easter Day, Jesus had risen from the dead, and then had spent 40 days with his friends.
Jesus called them up to a mountain and in the reading from Acts the disciples were told to “go and make disciples of all nations”, in other words to walk in Jesus’ footsteps. They would receive the power of the Holy Spirit. Helen said they would have found it difficult to say goodbye.
We heard members of the congregation say goodbye in a dozen or so languages. Goodbye is the shortened version of "God with us”.
Helen said that we are called to be God’s hands and feet and God’s presence is with us always.
With effect from Sunday, May 23 the church will be open for those who do not have electronic means of joining Worship on the Web.
