A CREDITON man will soon set off on a 100-mile cycle ride to raise funds for the British Ukrainian Appeal.

Roy Beckett (66), will begin his cycle ride this Sunday, May 1, leaving Crediton at 7am and travelling to Lapford, Barnstaple, Bideford, Torrington, Beaford, Winkleigh, Copplestone and back to Crediton.

Roy hopes to arrive back at Moto Velo in Union Road, Crediton, between 2pm and 2.30pm the same day.

“I am going to be wearing Ukrainian colours and will have two flags on my bike”, explained Roy.

He continued: “I am hoping to raise more than £2,000 for the British Ukrainian Appeal and have forms in some shops and businesses locally.

“People can also make a donation via my Facebook page where you can just look for British Ukrainian Appeal.

“I have cycled two practice runs this week, 40 miles and 15 miles as a warm-up.”

Roy added that he will have a driver behind for safety reasons.

He explained that he has been cycling for some years and previously cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats and also completed the Exmoor Jurassic of more than 100 miles.

Mr Beckett has received some “fantastic sponsorship” from local businesses and said: “I just can’t wait to go.”

He has a donation form at A and S Paving in Crediton and will also be collecting along the route.
