CREDITON was one of the first in Devon to work towards being a dementia friendly town. That was three years ago.

Since then its members have worked hard to make people more aware of the difficulties for people with dementia and how to help.

Crediton Dementia Action Alliance was formed in response to the call to create dementia-friendly communities throughout the UK.

The Alliance was initiated by both of Crediton’s Rotary Clubs, Crediton branch of Devon Senior Voice and the local Alzheimer’s Society representative.

Last week was Dementia Awareness Week. To help its cause, the Alliance was given a stall at Crediton Farmers’ Market on Saturday, May 21.

As well as holding information sessions for various organisations including care homes, churches and businesses, the Alliance has helped to establish and support a Memory Cafe which now meets three times a week.

It has provided a forum for those involved with people with dementia, has held awareness days with activities and is always willing to advise.

For more information, call at Crediton Station Tea Room where the Memory Cafe is based, telephone 01363 777766.
