At this month’s meeting of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council at Yeoford, Cllr Nick Yarnold floated the idea, saying he had investigated potential costs for a metal and Perspex shelter with a solar-powered internal light.
There were queries as to how Mid Devon District Council’s new black bin rubbish collection service would work for those who live down a lane but were not able to drag the bin up and down that lane.
This would especially be a problem if there was nowhere safe to store the bin at the top of the lane all the time.
Members approved buying more “20’s Plenty” notices to use at Hookway, Venny Tedburn and Yeoford.
It was pointed out that the notices should not cause a distraction to drivers but be visible.
PARISH REVIEW
From Mid Devon District Councillor Derek Coren’s report he had said the Parish Review second consultation included potentially two more councillors for Hamlets, making a total of 11.
Members would be considering this but felt that if there was sufficient interest in more representation for the village, people might attend the parish council meetings.
Of the nine members the chairman, John Stevens, lives on the edge of Yeoford, vice chairman David Parker, lives at Hookway.
Councillors Edna Beasley, Paul Brimacombe and Nick Yarnold live at Yeoford, Cllr Andy Cole lived in the village for many years before moving to Crediton.
Cllr George Mortimer lives at Uton, Cllr Ruth Vigers at Venny Tedburn, and Cllr Tony Price is at Woodland Head, a hamlet between Yeoford and Cheriton Bishop.
Members commented that while where a councillor lived was important, so was their local knowledge and any skills they may have.
Councillors noted that those who felt Yeoford needed better representation were rarely at meetings. Time is set aside at every meeting for members of the public to raise issues.
This is usually Item Three on the agenda which says this is “an opportunity for members of the public to make representation, answer questions and give evidence on any item of business on the Agenda or raise issue for future consideration at the discretion of the chairman”.
PLANNING
An application to build two dwellings following the demolition of an agricultural building using the Class Q fallback position at Cabbage Moor, Crediton, was supported.
One of the two applicants, Mrs H Putt, was at the meeting and answered questions about the position of the houses and that they would occupy the same footprint as the old building.
An application to build a single storey garage at The Cider Barn, 6 Spencecombe Lane, Crediton, was supported.
SPENDING
It was noted that recent expenditure had included £75 to Crediton Boniface Rotary Club for planters, £83 for the Jubilee tree and plaque at Yeoford, a further £75 for a Jubilee grant and £1,000 to Yeoford Community Association for the playground.
