WELL-known and loved, as well as unusual plants, provided plenty of gardening chatter when Bert and Margaret Jewell opened their garden at Penrose, Crediton, raising £472 for Hospiscare on Sunday afternoon (May 13).

As well as a good plant stall there were home-made cakes for tea and a raffle supported by Eakers DIY and Evans Newsagents.

Bert is a popular speaker at garden clubs around the county. He specialises in pelargoniums and has won several gold medals over the years with his plants.

Helping in the kitchen were Marj Gleed and Meg Ellis from the Crediton Friends of Hospiscare. Thanks go from them to Bert and Margaret for opening their garden.

Hospiscare is the local charity supporting Exeter, Mid and East Devon, providing specialist care for people who have a terminal illness.
