MEMBERS were treated to “double” value at the May meeting of Crediton Flower Club as not only did they enjoy Jane Wonnacott’s skilful flower arranging but were also thoroughly entertained by her delightfully amusing stories about her busy life as a farmer’s wife.

Jane’s love of flowers shone throughout the demonstration which was entitled “Floral Moments”.

For the first arrangement vibrant pink and red roses were placed around an improvised “baton” echoing the Hogarth Curve style, linking at the base with a medley of pink carnations and alstromeria.

The arrangement was then placed onto an upturned top hat and the final effect was terrific.

Cream and white were the colours used for the next display – a wedding arrangement.

Jane used contorted willow, euonymus, alstromeria, lilies and roses and the final result was placed on a special stand set off by shimmering white material.

One of Jane’s particular joys is finding long lost containers and putting them to use again. This was proven when she discovered a wicker “tea cup and saucer” which was brought to life with a lovely all-round arrangement of brightly coloured gerbera, carnations, chrysanths and daisies – a happy display perfect for a dining table.

A vibrant design next – orange being the predominant colour – a lateral arrangement of yellow tulips, leonidas roses and glorious azalea was displayed to great effect on the top of a glass container aptly decorated with lights and stunning orange ribbon.

In contrast a more restful design came next – using a wooden ring for a base Jane chose a lovely combination of pink and white roses and soft garden foliage.

In the centre was placed a most attractive statuette resulting in a very peaceful design.

A magazine rack with an pretty lilac design then took centre stage for the finale.

Appropriately purple lilac was used together with a glorious medley of pink and blue summer flowers.

Mary Tasker gave the vote of thanks for what was a most refreshing and uplifting evening which made us all smile.

A special evening is being held for members in June – the next demonstration at the Boniface Centre will be on Thursday, July 14 at 7.15pm when Alison Penno’s subject will be “Blooming Wonderful”.

Visitors welcome as always.
