DUE to unforeseen circumstances Jackie Piper was unable to demonstrate at the January meeting of Crediton Flower Club, and at very short notice Barbara Clatworthy from Coombe Martin agreed to fill the gap with a demonstration entitled “Reflections”.
Before the meeting began, secretary, June Harry was presented with a beautifully decorated birthday cake for a special birthday, which was made by member Meg Ellis. A lovely start to the evening.
Barbara’s skill with flowers and foliage was matched with her warmth and humour and to the delight of the audience there was a musical accompaniment for each arrangement.
Barbara used a green and white theme throughout the demonstration using a delightful mix of varied green foliage and beautiful flowers.
To begin, she used a tall silver/glass container to display avalanche roses, phormium, skimmer, variegated holly and limes.
A simple, elegant design which was joined by a smaller “twin” arrangement to complete the scene.
Another glass container next. This time Barbara used dried sprayed albums, shamrock crysanths with fats and bergonia.
Then followed a beautiful piece of driftwood which formed part of a traditional design with white lisianthks, roses, sprayed agapanthus and a profusion of foliage.
There followed a bridal arrangement with Barbara using roses, tulips and spray carnations. The wolf cuscus gave a flowing movement to the design which was placed on top of a tower of green sticks (jenga) which Barbara acquired in Dubrovnick.
The finale was a very grand table arrangement with a large candelabrum, using silver was roses, spray carnations, senecio and rosemary.
This was joined by a really delightful complementary wreath with contorted willow dotted with tiny butterflies.
On a very cold night this wonderful demonstration left the audience feeling warm and relaxed, with one member describing it in her vote of thanks as “a sheer delight”.
Tea, coffee and cake were then served to bring a great evening to an end.
The next meeting is a DIY evening, entitled “Take three blooms” on February 11 at the Boniface Centre, starting at 7.15pm.
Visitors and new members are very welcome.
