AFTER two years of meetings and discussions, the final version of two important documents relating to the future of Crediton have been published.

Both the Crediton Community Emergency Plan and Crediton Community Flood Plan are both full of information about what to do should an emergency require it, but also have plenty of tips and advice on prevention and identifying and preparing for risks.

The Community Emergency Plan includes details of how to contact members of the Community Response Team, incident co-ordination, resources, community shelter plans, helicopter landing sites, home emergency plan, community risk assessment, telephone tree notification system, emergency telephone numbers, etc.

The Crediton Community Flood Plan includes useful contact names and telephone numbers, identifies some listed flood areas, actions to be taken in the event of a flood, where to obtain items such as sandbags, incident control points and community shelters, etc.

The documents are free-of-charge and are available from many outlets in the town, including the Crediton Council Offices at 8A North Street and the “Crediton Courier” office at 102 High Street.

APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS

A spokesperson for Crediton Town Council, which has produced the documents, said: “With the help of the Community Response Team (CRT) - made up of community volunteers full of local knowledge - the Emergency Plan has been tailored to provide Crediton with an outline to support itself when other agencies are overstretched and to increase the resilience of the Town.

“Some CRT members are even trained as local snow wardens, enabling them to help protect the community in winter conditions!

“If you care about the Crediton community or would be interested in supporting the community in emergency situations, why not become a member of the Crediton Community Response Team and help put Crediton’s Community Emergency Plan into action.”

Members of the Community Response Team should live in the community, have good local knowledge and have support of and speak on behalf of the community.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, Crediton Town Council will be holding a public meeting on Thursday, January 24 at 6pm in the Meadow Suite, Lords Meadow Leisure Centre.

All are invited to go along and find out more.

As part of the Snow Warden Scheme, Crediton Town Council has also had two pallets of grit delivered to help the CRT strengthen Crediton’s winter resilience.

The town council extends a big thank you to Link Logistics on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate for providing the location for this grit to be stored.

If would like to help in distributing the salt throughout the town, please go along to the meeting on January 24 or contact Crediton Town Council on 01363 773717 or email: [email protected] .
