FOUR choristers from Holy Cross Church in Crediton have achieved Gold Awards in the Royal Schools of Church Music “Voices for Life” scheme.

This is the top award in the RSCM scheme, for which the choristers have to demonstrate a wide-ranging set of abilities – musicianship skills, organisational skills, pastoral and interpersonal skills, singing and performing skills, and some choir-training skills, including knowledge of the liturgy.

The Bishop of Crediton, the Right Revd Dame Sarah Mullally, presented medals and certificates to the four choristers, Patricia Robottom, Karen Reed, Emma Richards and Catherine Stoyle, during the recent Friends of Crediton Parish Church service.

They were warmly congratulated by the large congregation present. The four Gold Medallists sang the Introit anthem in the service – Lift Thine Eyes by Mendelssohn.

Crediton Church Choir currently has 45 members, including 15 girl and boy Trebles, supporting the worship in the church each week.

In addition to practising each week, there is a social hour for Trebles on Tuesdays. Regular training also takes place using the Voices for Life scheme.

The choir is always keen to welcome new members, both adults and young people. For more details please contact the Director of Music (Mark Perry) on 07947 694 903 or email: [email protected] .
