THE 2019 Crediton Festival, CredFest, which will take place in June, includes many events and activities, attracting tourists and hundreds of people taking part or attending events.

The Town Team which runs the Festival recently received a Devon County Council Locality Grant of £2,000 to help stage the event from Crediton’s Devon County Councillor Nick Way.

Nick has also recently presented grant funds to The Turning Tides Project - towards a new kitchen and flooring at Crediton Station Tea Rooms, Copplestone Parish Council - Flag pole for the new war memorial, Men in Sheds project – New shed, green house and garden furniture, Age Concern Crediton – New crockery, Crediton Congregational Church – Equipment for Community support worker, The Common Players – “Echoes of Wartime” production, Crediton Arts Centre – Repairs and painting of windows, Crediton Community Book Shop – Signage and information leaflets, Crediton Food Bank – Food during the children’s summer holidays, Copplestone Methodist Church - towards a Defibrillator and Transport For Your Community - Documents and general costs.

Mr Way said that many local community organisations have benefited from Devon County Council’s Locality and Invest in Devon funds during the past few years.

He explained: “Every County Councillor has a budget for their area. Community or voluntary groups (including Town and Parish Councils) can apply through their County Councillor for a grant from these funds to help finance their projects subject to application.  “Locality budget funding adds value to projects that are beneficial to local communities, and helps to meet the council’s strategic objectives.

“Projects or activities can be quite diverse and should reflect the needs of communities.

“They need to include some other financial contribution and / or local support.”

Mr Way added: “Groups are welcome to apply for funds and should in the first instant contact the County Councillor for their area. Application forms are available and can be downloaded from the Devon County Council website: new.devon.gov.uk/democracy/councillors-nav/locality-budgets/ .
