CREDITON and District Community Land Trust will be officially launched on Friday, November 6 following a soft launch at the Green Fair in the Square last month.

Following discussions and four community conversations about the future of housing in the Crediton area in recent years, a group of people have now got together to form the Crediton and District Community Land Trust which could take land, buildings etc into community ownership.

In July this year the Crediton Area Community Land Trust (CACLT) was formed by a group of volunteers.

Since then, the volunteers have met regularly, visited and spoken to other community land trusts, made sure that DCC and MDDC are aware of its existence, begun working on a plan based on the vision, and have also begun issuing shares to people who have expressed an interest in becoming a member.

CACLT will help people in the Crediton Area to meet vital local needs. It is governed by a Board of up to 12 volunteers, elected by the Trust’s shareholders.

CACLT empowers the local community to make lasting social, economic and environmental improvements.

CACLT is registered with the Financial Services Authority (FSA) as community benefit society (No. 8817), under the Co-Operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. It is also a member of The Community Land Trust Network.

CACLT is an independent and non-profit organisation that works for the benefit of the local community in areas such as:

Affordable homes, Local employment and services, Facilities, such as community shops and buildings, Allotments, community supported agriculture, orchards, woodlands, nature recovery, Community owned renewable energy generation.
