MANY in our community are aware of the change to our climate, of our need to live sustainably and within the means of our planet. Waste of resources, in particular, is generally condemned.
At its September meeting, Crediton Town Council declared a Climate Change Emergency and agreed to set up a new sub-committee to deal with climate change and sustainability.
The decisions were partly in response to a presentation made by two Landscore School pupils to the council in June. They also follow on from declarations on climate change made by Devon County Council and all the district councils, including Mid Devon District Council.
The council agrees that there is general recognition in the county that a lot of things that we do at present will need to change in the future, and the local response is as important as the regional and national.
The Crediton Town Council Climate Change and Sustainability Sub-committee includes town councillors, representatives from town organisations and members of the public.
At the first meeting in October, it was agreed to keep four places open for other representatives or the general public to take up.
The committee meets again on Tuesday, November 12 at 7pm at Old Landscore School, Greenway (at the junction with Landscore.)
Anyone who is interested in the work of the sub-committee is invited to go along.
The sub-committee is looking for people to join it, but the meetings are open for people to attend at any time.
Anyone interested in hearing about or taking part in future discussions, projects, events and campaigns will be very welcome to the meeting next week.
