FOLLOWING the publishing of the Crediton United Football photograph of a 1941 Crediton Juniors team in the last issue of the Courier there were several responses and Chris Gillard who is copying his collection of photos to produce a DVD later in the year was pleased to have all the team named.
Former player Colin Clarke now living in Sandford was able to provide some of the names and also provided another photo of the 1958 Crediton First Team.
Cyril Wollacott, however, was able to go one better and name all of the team as he was in fact one of the players in the team.
Cyril was also able to lend Chris a couple of even earlier photographs to copy of the 1919 and 1920 Crediton teams in which Cyril's father Leonard (also known as "Limmer") was one of the players.
The 1941 team members were: back row -"Giffell" Harvey, Les Ashplant, Norman Kemp, Jim Wright, Cyril Wollacott, front row:- Stan Boundy, Ray Hopper, Geoffrey "Tinker" Willis, Derek Long, Ron Howard, and ? Callard.
A copy of Cyril's 1920 photograph is printed here and shows Cyril's father Leonard in the front row holding the football.
If anyone knows the names of any of the other players, please write them down and leave them at the Courier office.
Chris would also like to know if anyone can recognise where the photograph was taken. He thinks it could possibly be the Blagdon Meadow where a housing estate is now situated.
