A LOCAL councillor has resigned from his party after receiving a court summons in relation to an alleged assault.
He is yet to be charged with any offence, but Mid Devon District Council have confirmed he had decided to stand down from the Conservative group.
A council spokesman said: "Councillor John Squire has received a summons in relation to an alleged assault.
"This is being dealt with by the courts. He has tendered his resignation from the Conservative Group and will remain as in independent councillor until this matter is resolved."
