Could you help Anne in her bid to raise funds for Aspire?

A 72-YEAR-OLD Copplestone woman is currently taking part in a sponsored swim in aid of Aspire, a spinal injuries charity.

Anne Greig explained: “Ten years after my last go, now with arthritis everywhere, I decided this year to do the Aspire Channel Swim (22 miles, the distance of the channel, in 12 weeks, in the Lords Meadow Leisure Centre pool).

“Earlier this year I joined Weight Watchers and they actively encourage us to enjoy exercise (usually a contradiction in terms for me!) and I decided to give the Aspire swim a go, though with my arthritis issues swimming only accounts for about half my pool lengths, the other half being, shall we say, interesting methods of transporting oneself through water.

“Many years ago a young man at my children’s school was severely injured at the age of 17 in a motorbike accident.

“He was airlifted to a spinal injuries unit and today, although paraplegic, lives a full life I believe (though I’m out of touch with the family now).

“The work done by Aspire is incredible.”
