NOW a regular event in the calendar for Crediton Swimming Club, the Shrewsbury Masters Open Meet took place on January 10.

Along with swimmers from other clubs, the format was to swim five races, one of each stroke at one of the three distances (25m, 50m or 100m) and a 100m individual medley.

The biggest competition of the day was between Matt Hockin and Rob Brimacombe who were working out the permutations of who would come out on top, with Rob beating Matt in the 100m IM and Matt beating Rob in the 50m freestyle.

At the end of the day Matt pipped Rob by one point for second with Rob third.

Emma Hockin just missed out on a cooler bag by one point and Darren Beer came second, one point behind the winner with only three-100ths of a second difference.

The wins were as follows: Rob Brimacombe 1, Emma Hockin 1, Matt Hockin 2 and Darren Beer 4 and of these wins Darren swam two personal bests in the 100m IM and by one second in the 100m breaststroke.

Matt Hockin:100m Fly (1:18.86.), 100m Breaststroke (1.33.88), 100m IM (1:17.22), 50m Backstroke (35.79), 50m Freestyle (28.60).

Emma Hockin: 100m IM (1:20.78), 50m Freestyle (32.12), 25m Backstroke (19.08), 50m Fly (36.52), 50m Breaststroke (40.17).

Rob Brimacombe: 50m Fly (31.61), 50m Breaststroke (35.64), 100m IM (1:15.13), 100m Backstroke (1:17.41), 50m Freestyle (28.80).

Darren Beer: 100m Fly (1:10.18), 100m Breaststroke (1:16.69), 100m IM (1:09.85), 50m Backstroke (34.23), 100m Freestyle (1:02.93).

DARTMOOR SPRINTS

Crediton's younger swimmers were also in action at the Dartmoor Sprints Open Meet, held at Okehampton, where they put up some very good swims.

Medallists were: Katherine Prosser, Ella Grigg, Laura Cooper, Nathaniel Scarborough, Chloe Eyles and James Hudson.

Andrew Millar, Grace Newport Tucker and Rebecca Mather also took part and swam some good races aganist some tough opposition.
