THOUSANDS of people from across the town and area took part in a second national applause of thanks for key and health workers helping in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday, April 2.

Again, there were pots and pans banged and a loud firework was let off in the town.

The organisers of the Clap for Carers campaign, which was started online and held the week before, said it was being staged because "during these unprecedented times, (NHS staff) need to know we are grateful".

A number of national landmarks were lit up especially to say thank you on this occasion and the during the prior week.
