LOCAL residents have been supplying a family with clothing, toys and other items after their Sandford home was severely damaged by fire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the property on fire at Sandford at 12.41am on Monday, August 23.

Crews from Witheridge and Danes Castle, Exeter, were sent to the scene and upon arrival confirmed a fire in the ground floor of the property.

The firefighters put out the fire using one hose reel jet, one safety jet, two sets of breathing apparatus and small tools.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check the fire was out and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to assist in the removal of smoke from the property.

The downstairs utility was 100 per cent damaged by fire and the remaining ground floor was 10 per cent damaged by fire.

The property was 100 per cent damaged by smoke.

The incident was believed to be accidental and the fire crews left the scene at 4am.

The family has been unable to return to their home and are fortunately staying with kind friends.

An appeal was issued for items from the community to assist the family members during the difficult time.
