CREDITON and District University of the Third Age (U3A) said goodbye to two of its key committee members at its April 15 meeting.
Keith Barker was one of the founding officers when the branch was started 10 years ago by the late Frank Letch MBE.
The branch has been in existence for 10 years and Keith was treasurer for the first seven years and the publicity officer for three years.
He was also the trips organiser and also ran a very successful group visiting interesting buildings.
Liz Ouldridge, Crediton U3A chair, who presented Keith with a gift on behalf of the branch, added: “Keith has also been very active in many of our special interest groups and is always there at our monthly Open Meetings.
“He and his wife Sue are leaving us as they are moving to be near family.”
In addition, Liz also presented a gift on behalf of the branch to Jo Penning.
Liz explained: “Jo took over the role of groups’ coordinator about five years ago.
“She has been very active in supporting our special interest groups as well as running coffee mornings and our book club.
“She and her partner Brian also take part in many of our special interest groups as well as coming to our monthly open meetings.
“They too are moving to be near family.
“The Crediton will miss them a great deal and we wish them all the best for the future.”
The Crediton branch has 300 members and almost 30 interest groups.
U3A is one of the largest member organisations in the UK.
It provides opportunities for anyone looking to expand their horizons in their ‘third age” through talks, visits and special interest groups.
