PLANS to open a Co-Operative Store in Crediton appear to have been delayed.
Co-operative Estates Department from Manchester has submitted a planning application to Mid Devon District Council for the removal and replacement of shop front and alterations to public access at the former Costcutter food supermarket premises at 135 High Street, Crediton.
It had been hoped that the store would be open in December in time for Christmas but unconfirmed reports indicate that this has been delayed, apparently after asbestos was found in the premises.
The removal of the asbestos is likely to require specialist working and this has apparently caused the delay.
The property has been empty for almost two years.
