CREDITON resident Dr Paul Chanin, is an internationally known mammal ecologist who has written many books and papers and has an extensive experience in consultancy, surveys, training and research.
Paul has worked all over the United Kingdom and Ireland and has been involved in fieldwork in Europe and South America.
Paul is perhaps best known for his work with otters, badgers and dormice.
On Monday, March 19 he will give an illustrated talk entitled “From Antelopes to Zebras: close encounters with African Wildlife” at 7.30pm in the Boniface Centre.
In 2017 Paul and two fellow zoologists spent five weeks in Africa where they hoped to see and record as many species of mammals as possible.
During the five weeks 60 species were recorded, some very unusual and rare. During Paul’s talk he will show the landscapes of northern Botswana and Namibia and the animals that live there.
Those who go along will be able to share some alarmingly close encounters at the camp and see fascinating nocturnal behaviour.
From ancient rock paintings in the Kalahari Desert to an otter in the turbulent water below Victoria Falls.
During the evening Paul will introduce his audience to the marvellous biodiversity of Southern Africa.
The talk is in support of the Holy Cross Crediton Campaign Roof Appeal.
Admission is £6 on the door and light refreshments will be available.
