CHURCH bells rang out across Devon on Saturday, May 31 as the county’s bellringers’ association marked its centenary.
The Devon Association of Ringers wanted the church bells to be rung at more than 100 towers, by more than 1,000 ringers on one day but this was far exceeded!
Bells were rung at more than 130 towers and locally this included Coldridge, Down St Mary and Crediton to name but a few.

John Warne, the 2024 president of the association came up with the idea of the marathon ringing event.
He said the idea was inspired by Rev AF McCarthy of Zeal Monachorum, who 100 years ago set up an "association to encourage call change ringing", to get more people to ring.
