ON one day when everyone wore something green for a contribution to the charity, ELF (Exeter Leukaemia Fund), a number of pupils at Copplestone Primary School were able to hand over a cheque for £206.

For personal reasons one of the girls at the school had been inspired to organise the fundraising.

At an assembly at the school on Friday, July 13, the group, Leah, Freya, Abigail and Grace, presented the cheque to Natalie Searle, ELF fundraising manager.

Natalie explained that ELF is a charity supporting patients attending Yarty Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and their families.

About 600 people a week go there for treatment of blood disorders or leukaemia. Although called Exeter Leukaemia Fund, the charity covers right across Devon, anyone going to Yarty Ward.

There is a flat near the hospital for the patient and their families if a lot of treatment is needed.

"You do not need to feel you must raise hundreds and hundreds of pounds to make a difference, it is about lots of people doing lots of different things that come together," she said.

ELF At Home is tailored to each individual and can be supporting someone by things such as helping with shopping and ELF runs a non-profit making food kiosk at Yarty Ward.

Thanking the school for its contribution Natalie added: "Without people raising this sort of money we would not be able to do what we are doing."

Green was chosen as the colour for the day because it is the ELF colour.
