PUPILS at Sandford School were delighted when Lyn Bundey from Stevie B’s Bakery visited the school to teach them all about bread.
Children from Reception and Years 1 and 2 were divided into three mixed age groups and spent the morning in three classrooms taking part in bread-themed activities.
In the first class the children weighed-out ingredients and made their own bread in small groups.
In the second they made salt dough which they used to make bread shapes –as well as tasting and smelling a range of breads from the bakery and feeling flour and soft dough.
In the third classroom the children listened to the story about “Little Red Hen” in which bread was made using wheat she had grown from seed. The children acted out the story and then put together a “Rap” about the “Little Red Hen” accompanied by musical instruments.
Each child took home a bread roll they had made during the day.
