AS in previous years, Cheriton Fitzpaine Drama Club held a Summer Scheme for young people during the school holidays.

Producer, Vicky Lancelles inspired the children to plan a short play The Mystery of the Missing Sheep or a Ba-faced Robbery.

In the first half the actors showed us the skills they had learned in the workshops: for example, stage combat, choral speaking and singing.

In the second half, dressed in costume, they took part in a short drama, involving Little Bo Peep, played by a red-cheeked maid, Holly Taylor-Shorland.

The narrator, Holly Metcalf was quite self-assured and kept the momentum up. To add to the excitement, Alleena Purchase appeared whenever there was a pause in the proceedings to ask “Has anyone seen George?”. George was never found.

On the first night, Friday, senior citizens were invited to a tea party, provided by Sarah Steele and Claire Cavill, with help from other mums, before enjoying an early performance.

The Scheme, which is quite hard to administer, as children take time off for holidays, would not happen without a number of adults.

David Simms accompanied the play throughout, and also controlled the lighting. It is so gratifying for the Drama Club to see young adults such as Vicky, Josie Norton, and Charlotte French, who had themselves attended the scheme, now helping with the production.

David Pink was responsible for set construction. Long may it continue!
