THIS year’s Cheriton Fitzpaine Carnival promises fun for all the family on Saturday, July 16.
The procession will start at 7pm and make its way through the village before returning again.
Judging of floats and walking entries will take place from 6pm.
Booked and confirmed so far for this year’s Carnival are three troupes of majorettes, South Molton Town Band and Cruwys Morchard YFC Street Heat Dancing.
Many village organisations and businesses will be entering floats or walkers in the parade.
Late entries are invited to enter the procession, whether walking or a float and should book by emailing Clarrie Lancelles: [email protected] . Entry forms are available from Cheriton Fitzpaine Post Office.
The procession is always colourful with many people in fancy dress or costume and many of the floats are amusing and raise a smile.
Most people watch the procession in the village, where there will be food and drink available and a disco in the square at the Half Moon crossroads after the procession.
It was about 100 years ago that the tradition of a carnival began at Cheriton Fitzpaine and it is one of the very few carnivals still remaining in the South West.
President of Cheriton Fitzpaine Carnival is Ray Sanders and the chairman is Brenda Fowler.
Carnival royalty will be on the leading float with attendants.
Profits from the carnival, which is held every other year, go to village organisations.
