ASHTON’S Coffee Lounge, situated in the Pannier Market on the edge of Crediton Town Square, was broken into overnight on Tuesday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 9, by what the owners described as "despicable actions from low-lifes."

The till at the coffee lounge was forced open and the float stolen together with charity boxes for the British Royal Legion Poppy Appeal, RSPB, PDSA animal charity and a box for a local charity for grieving children!

Julie from Ashtons said: "Our customers give generously to these charities and we are sorry that people can stoop so low to steal from them.

"While I was talking to the police customers stepped in and helped with washing dishes and clearing tables.

"We’ve had lots of messages on "Facebook" and our accountants bought us flowers.

"Thank you to everyone for showing such good community spirit."
